Its central position on the valley of Camaiore allows for an unique perspective that unites the views of mountains tops, tuscan hills, and ends in the mediterranean sea.

The name metato comes from the typical constructions that were used as drying-rooms of chestnuts, a common fruit for which the area is known. Surrounded by forests, the village has not been connected to the town of Camaiore by road until few decades ago, when a beautiful paved road was built.
